Understanding The Great Commission Text: Matthew 28:18-20 IBCSS 2/27/05 Preacher: Pastor Jose B. Cabajar
A good understanding regarding the great commission leads believers to realize God’s working through the Church and His will to save the lost, and it will surely move the believer’s heart of compassion to reach more souls for Christ. The increasing number of Local Churches getting involved in Worldwide Mission Program these days is a good sign of the believers’ awareness of the great commission. As more commitments are made by believers, surely, more souls will be reached for the Lord. On the other hand, the adversary tries to hinder the spreading of the Gospel of Christ. He works hard to divert the believers’ minds and focus by instilling deceitful principles that could produce indifferent attitude toward commitments and giving so he may entrap them into the snare of spiritual barrenness. Certainly, we are in a fierce battle against the forces of darkness and we really need an obedient attitude toward God’s Word so we may not overlook and neglect our God-given task to evangelize the world. Our positive attitude toward our spiritual goal will surely make us a good steward of the Truth. (I) The Authority We Must Recognize Matthew 28:18 -The power of Christ …All power is given unto me… The power we must recognize is the same power we must use in spreading the Word of Life. (II) The Command We Must Obey Matthew 28:19 -The key step we must take Go ye… Every believer is for the Truth, but if he disobeys the command of the Lord, he will shamefully lose his reward. Obedience keeps us from the sin of negligence. (III) The Coverage Of Evangelization We Must Consider Matthew 28:19 -The area of responsibility …all nations… The vastness of the mission field demands more serious commitments from believers to consistently support global evangelization. In Matthew 9:37-38, it is written, Then saith he unto his disciples, The harvest truly is plenteous , but the laborers are few; Pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he will send forth laborers into his harvest. (IV) The Message We Must Tell Matthew 28:19-20 -The message of salvation -The believer’s identification with Christ -The Gospel Rule of Life …teach… …baptizing… Teaching… The greatest and most essential message to be told through the ages and through out the whole world is the message of salvation, and the greatest messengers of all times are the messengers of the Lord Jesus Christ. (V) The Promise We Must Cling To Matthew 28:20 Mark 16:20 -The abiding presence of the Lord -The working of the Holy Ghost Acts 1:8 …I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen. As we realize the abiding presence of the Lord in our ministry, may we not be afraid to make remarkable commitments to support our Worldwide Mission Program. Bear in mind that the spreading of the Gospel is not a job of one person only, but it demands a good teamwork among the believers.
